Trends: Grass-Fed Milk Products

grass-fed yogurtAlthough I only came across two companies at Natural Products Expo West that carried grass-fed milk products, grass-fed is an important trend (grass-fed beef is becoming huge). I hope that grass-fed dairy products become more widely available and more dairy farms follow suit. Organic, grass-fed milk has a much better fatty acid profile than regular milk, even regular organic milk. It simply means that the cows have grazed on grass instead of eating grains.

I tried Nancy’s organic, grass-fed cottage cheese at my local Whole Foods and liked it. The company has more products in their line-up such as yogurt but they need customer support to get their products in stores. I also spotted my other favorite, Siggi’s yogurt. Although I avoid agave, which their flavored yogurts are sweetened with, I am in love with their plain, nonfat yogurt and go through several tubs a week. I met the founder at the company’s Expo West booth, which was one of the highlights of my day.
